Matsui's splitter and slider are all well above average, giving him a fairly balanced arsenal. His 197 career saves are the ninth most in Japanese pro baseball. Matsui's the only lefty on the team who typically works out of his club's bullpen, although Kuriyama has said tournament roles have yet to be fixed.
